Portland set to host pulp, paper industry safety conference later this month

The 27th annual Western Pulp, Paper & Forest Products Safety & Health Conference will be held on Nov. 28-Dec. 1 at the Red Lion Hotel on the River – Jantzen Beach in Portland.

The Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA) and partner organizations are inviting workers, contractors, and employers in Oregon’s pulp, paper, and forest products industries to the conference which has been designed to highlight innovative workplace safety and health ideas.

Conference topics include:
• scaffold safety
• personal and worksite disaster preparedness
• managing driver behavior and
• creating and maintaining safe operating procedures.

The conference’s keynote speaker, Bruce Wilkinson, will present “Implementing an Organizational Culture of World Class Value – Safety and Personal Responsibility” on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

He will show why organizational safety culture is more effective when there is a common set of attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that inspire people to want to encourage others to do the right thing.
