The Mine Safety and Health Administration has announced that the final rule on Examinations of Working Places in Metal and Non-metal Mines will be published in the Federal Register on Jan. 23. The new rule becomes effective on May 23.
OSHA says the final rule will enhance the quality of working place examinations and improve miners’ safety and health. Mine operators will be required to:
• conduct working place examinations to identify hazards before work begins in an area,
• notify affected miners of hazardous conditions that are not corrected immediately
• record the locations examined, the adverse conditions found, and the date of the corrective action.
