A tragic workplace incident cost the life of a mill worker after he was reportedly trapped in a machine Saturday afternoon.
Authorities are investigating a fatal industrial incident at the Shaw Carpet Mill plant in Bartow County wherein a worker identified as 56-year-old David Holland, got caught in a machine at the carpet mill at around 2:00 in the afternoon.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene of the incident at Cartersville along Highway 411 and Hamilton Crossing Road and saw the worker unconscious. Initial investigations say Holland was doing routine maintenance work when he became trapped and died on the scene.
Authorities are further looking into the fatal industrial incident to determine what exactly happened leading up to the tragic incident.
Shaw’s management released a statement which read, “the health and safety of Shaw’s associates is our top priority” adding that “Shaw will be conducting an investigation into the matter.”
The company is also expressing their sympathies to the family, loved ones and colleagues of the victim.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is expected to conduct their own investigation
