A road construction worker was killed after he was hit by a vehicle while on a job related task in Northeast Nebraska Sunday morning.
The Nebraska State Patrol said, 42-year-old John Hansen was at the site on Nebraska 94, about 2 miles east of Walthill when the incident happened at approximately 9:30 in the morning. The victim was said to be standing in the construction zone when an eastbound vehicle struck him. Hansen died at the scene.
According to the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), Hansen was a flagger at the site which is being managed by Brandt Excavation.
The driver of the vehicle, 31-year-old Kenneth Gilpin of Walthill was cited and was jailed in the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
