Worker Injured After 3,000lbs Steel Coil Falls on His Leg

A worker sustained non-life threatening injury after a 3,000 pound of steel coil fell on his leg at a warehouse in Bolingbrook Tuesday morning.

The worker believed to be in his mid 20’s suffered leg injury when the 3,000 lbs of steel coil fell on his leg at D&D Manufacturing Inc., in 500 Block of Territorial Drive.

Bolingbrook Police said they were alerted of the incident and immediately dispatched a team of responders to the site. Upon arriving at the scene, paramedics treated the injured worker before transporting him to an area hospital nearby.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) sent a team to investigate the incident. OSHA’s spokeswoman, Rhonda Burke said they have an open inspection with the company after a complaint alleging unsafe working condition was lodged against the company.

D&D Manufacturing Inc., also has three citations last December. Burke said the company failed to provide separate two-hand controls for a two-person operation on a punch press. They also did not report an amputation within 24 hours and did not also record adequate descriptions of injuries or illness in the company’s logbook.

In 2015, D&D Manufacturing Inc., was inspected four times and got several citations and was slapped with a fine of more than $160,000. The company has two locations, one in Bolingbrook and another in El Paso, Texas.

The company did not give any comments regarding the recent incident.
