Construction worker killed in Maryland

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating after a construction worker was killed in an industrial incident in Northern Montgomery County, Maryland, on Monday morning.

Rescue workers were called to the incident on Frederick Road shortly before 9am. Local police said the man died after he became trapped under machinery.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, a preliminary total of 4,679 fatal work injuries were recorded in the United States in 2014.

Out of 4,251 worker fatalities in private industry in 2014, 874 or 20.5% were in construction―that is, one in five worker deaths were in construction.

The leading causes of worker deaths on construction sites were falls, followed by electrocution, struck by object, and caught-in/between.
